How to refinance car and switch over title.?

I need to put a car that i’ve been making payments on for 4 years into my own name. Still have 2 years left on current loan. The title is still in my ex-husband’s name and want to get this cleared up before I re-marry. I have applied for a loan in my own name. How does the next step work as far as loan, then switching title? Never done this before.

Most people know that they can refinance their house, but fewer know that it’s possible to refinance a car loan, too! It’s become extremely popular in recent years. And it might seem like a silly idea, since most car loan terms are short–typically three to five years. If you got your car loan when rates were high, you may be able to get a lower rate now.

Many car loan lenders that will refinance your loan don’t charge any fees. That means no application fees, no fees for paying off your first loan early, and no other extra charges.

Your next step is for your ex to call his bank and request a payout. Then have your bank make a draft made out to exactly the amount owing to your ex’s bank. Request a lien release letter on the spot. Assuming you are a current driver you should already have insurance. You may also be required to have a mechanical safety and emission test done. Then take your lien release letter, safety certificate and emission test to the DMV and register your vehicle into your name.
