Philips 50PF9731D/37 50 in. Plasma TV Repair bad capacitor

techstoprepair.blogspot.com Here is a semi detailed video of a 50″ Philips plasma tv repair model 50PF9731D/37. This was my first TV repair and i thought it would be helpful to show how easy it can be. I replaced 2 3300uf 10v 105c capacitors. From what i’ve read this is one of the most common repairs for LCD and Plasma due to power surge. Total cost of repair was about in parts. Please feel free to ask any question in the comments section. Sorry about the audio in some spots, but i promise you didnt miss anything. Thanks!

I do have to mention that when we got it up and plugged it into the wall it sparked a little. So I am wondering if it blew something…?

i would replace both 3300uf caps. they will be side by side if you are working on the same board as this video. though bulging is a good indicator that the cap is bad it may be bad without showing any outward signs.

I have a I have a Sylvania 6842PE Plasma 42′ TV. It was given to me.

The power light comes on for about a split second, then then goes back into standby. I read its bad capacitors, but don’t know where.

    Any advice?

Big thanks for taking the time to make this video. I had read about this fix somewhere else on the web but the visual presentation made the difference (especially since I had to make the repair to the exact same 50″ phillips plasma). My root cause was a power surge so my advice to everyone out there is to get a really good surge protector for all of your home theater devices, not just your TVs. Thanks again.

Those are easy to spot … there bulged :O)

It’s not acid … those are electrolytic capacitors … basically oil and paper ;O)

BTW …. be careful man …. some of those capacitors are large enough to get you a nasty little shock … lol.

Thanks for posting this … we need more videos like this seeing how most of these new flat panel TVs are using cheap Chinese electronic components … hehe.
